Mayan Bee Sanctuary (San Miguel de Cozumel)

We had a fabulous time! The tour was an excellent highlight of these special pollinators and all pollinators throughout the world. It was really cool to experience a taste of Mayan culture, see the bees at work, and taste their special honey at the end!

Put it on your list! Fascinating, educational and well done. Add the honey tasting and it rates 5+ stars. Two shops for souvenirs and honey. Happy we stopped.

Very cool place and educational. Didn’t realize these bees were so small and have no stingers. They are no bigger than a fly and at first it was hard to see them. Once you do see them it’s cool.

Stopped by the bee sanctuary on a island tour. We were immediately greeted and taken on a tour by Mario. He was very informative and charismatic. We enjoyed learning about the bees, tasting honey and seeing the items for sale. The ritual before entering the bee sanctuary was a great experience.

This is great must see stop. Very educational, family friendly. Great signage and educational information. Clean restrooms, gift shop. Beautiful gardens, forest canopy. Accepts large group tours. Yes, they speak English very well. Enjoy.

I loved to learn the history and ecology of the Melipona or Mayan bee. We got to taste their honey. Lighter than typical honey. We bought some to take home and some for a gift.

Beautiful experience! They do such a great job of taking care of their bees and foliage. Mario was very patient with our kids and was very knowledgeable. The tour is not very long, but it is a great experience to see real Bee hives and see their natural habitat. Go for a relaxing time and some good honey samples.

The sanctuary was neat. The honey sampling was fine. They gave us a honey cough drop as part of the sampling and that was an interesting choice when they have honey candy. I'm all for saving the bees.

Beware!!!! We were charged $60 on our credit card when we purchased a $10 jar of honey!!! Sep 2023 It is an infuriating when you try to support local businesses as a tourist and they commit fraud!!! Worse yet, it's part of a Royal Caribbean shore excursion!!!

Great experience, bee's are very important to our ecosystems.

Beautiful little sanctuary for bees. Learned a few new general things about bees. It also learned some of the specifics of the Mayan stingless bees and their importance to the culture. Definitely worth the visit and the Mayan honey has a truly unique and delicious flavor.
